Language and Literacy

FSNLC offers both accredited and pre-accredited English classes for speakers of other languages.

Accredited courses are offered full time. They follow the EAL Frameworks curriculum. Students from absolute beginner level (22259VIC Course in EAL) right up to 22256VIC Certificate IV in EAL (Access) can work towards their nationally recognised certificate in English as an additional language.

EAL Pathyways supports all new learners into their studies at FSNLC through a comprehensive interview and orientation process to encourage inclusion and participation. Program introduces them to a variety of experiences to encourage participation in a formal learning environment.

We also offer conversation classes at Avondale Heights, Flemington and Sam Merrifield Library free of cost.

Adult Literacy is a class for native and non-native speakers of English who need extra help to build their reading and writing skills. Includes computer use and other forms of digital literacy. Students can combine this class with a digital literacy class.

Literacy for further learning helps learners build skills in research, reading, writing, grammar, punctuation and oral presentations. Learn through the exploration of themes via the use of classic texts. Includes research into:

• current affairs

• history

• cultures of the world

• classic speeches

• geography
