Farnham Street won the 2020 NHVic Community Development Award for their Resilient Refugee Youth program.
This project improves the quality of life for young, newly arrived refugees by matching them up with a Mentor who is responsive to their individual needs, providing them with guidance and assistance to achieve their personal, educational and professional goals.
The Project helps the young refugees to realise their full potential and enables them to meaningfully participate in their community. The key outcomes are; greater engagement in school, improved health and social wellbeing and a reduction in unemployment.
We are thrilled to win the award and so proud of everyone who was involved in the project.
The Project was funded by Melbourne Airport Grants, Supporting Stronger Communities and Flemington Financial Services (Bendigo Bank). We also acknowledge the support of the Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centre Association for their DGR authorisation.
