Computer Basics

This is a beginner class for people who want to learn to use a computer and use the internet. We cover typing on a computer, documents, email and Google searches. You don’t need a lot of English language skills for this course.

This is a beginner class for people who want to learn to use a computer and use the Internet. We cover typing on a computer, documents, email and Google searches and introduce saving documents, pictures and attachments. You don’t need a lot of English language skills for this course.

Computers for Language learners

A course designed to specifically support learners enrolled in English as an Additional Language classes in levels 2, 3 and 4 EAL Frameworks. Includes keyboard skills, formatting and saving documents, internet searches and online research, emails, attachments and using online language learning resources.

Computers for Work

This is a class for people who need to use computers for work. Includes use of internet, email, using images, creating and saving documents. The course concentrates on Microsoft Office software using practical examples such as making flyers, newsletters, presentations, cards and calendars.

Working with Digital Media

This is a class for people who want to learn to use images and pictures on computers or tablets and phones. Includes downloading, software for editing editing images, using images in documents effectively, backups to USB, and presentations.

IT Projects

This is a class for people who need to develop particular computer skills usually for work. Projects can be web based or documents based. Students learn systems for planning, developing, saving and backing up their work. Computer security issues are also covered.

Introduction to iPads

A course for people who have no knowledge of an iPad or who would like a refresher on some of its basic aspects. Get on the Right Side of the Digital Divide.

Covers: iPad fundamentals; Basic use of devices with its switches and layout; Apps, what they are, how to get them and how to organise them. Lessons focus on apps that • entertain us, inform us or help us in our daily lives. Includes email and web browsing

Cost: $70 full fee or $50 concession
   

Introduction to Androids

Farnham Street is offering a Wireless Workshop for Android phones and tablets . Roger Hersey will take you through common tasks like sending a text message, watching a video clip on YouTube, or surfing the Web. The  Workshops also cover fundamentals like configuring the security options, adjusting the brightness of the display, and setting the device up to work with a wireless network.
